He is quick and shifty, rather than a pure speedster, and is excellent at creating yards after the catch with field vision and contact balance. He worked as the centerpiece for his offense, providing versatility as a slot receiver, tailback, and taking handoffs in jet sweeps. Despite being shorter, he showed incredible ball skills and went up and came down with plenty of 50/50 balls. He needs to work on being more explosive off the ball and adding to his physical size to get more Division 1 vision.

TRAIT EVALUATION

Movement Skills
He is a great straight-line runner and turned in some huge plays for his offense. He is shifty and can execute a variety of moves to evade defenders. More of a sound athlete rather than a pure speedster.

Physicality
He is a physical runner for his size. His contact balance is excellent, allowing him to easily break weak tackles. He is not going to run someone over, but also doesn’t shy away from physicality.

Football Intelligence
Intelligence is great; he was able to learn multiple different packages his offense used for him. Being able to work at slot receiver, occasionally outside receiver, as a tailbnack isnt easy to do at any level.

STRENGTHS

Runs clean routes

Versatile: works as a slot receiver, takes handoff out of the backfield, and in jet sweeps

contact balance and yards after the catch

Ball skills

AREAS FOR DEVELOPMENT

Explosiveness off the ball

Benefited from weak competition; found himself to be wide open due to broken coverage

Physical Size

INTANGIBLES

Motor / Effort Level: High motor, he doesn’t shy away from defenders and is willing to do whatever it takes to make huge plays.

Competitiveness: Incredibly competitive; at times, it looked like he did it all for his offense. He turned in massive plays and created huge chunk yardage when it didn’t look to be there.

OVERALL EVALUATION

Summary Statement: Will Davis Jr. is a versatile offensive weapon who impacts the game in multiple ways as a slot receiver and backfield option. His shiftiness, ball skills, and ability to create yards after the catch make him one of the more dangerous playmakers in his class, and with added explosiveness and physical development, he has the tools to draw strong Division 1 attention in the future.

SCOUT INFORMATION

Scout Name: Shawn Foley

Thanks for reading Shawn's Substack!
